HOWDY! HERE ARE SOME TIDBITS ABOUT ME ⇢⇠ NABO
WHERE ARE YOU NOW, AND WHERE WERE YOU BEFORE NOW?
I live in Beverly, Massachusetts now… but I’m from Dallas, Texas originally (b. 1978). I moved to the Northeast in 2003.
The nickname “Nabo” came out of my baseball playing days when i was a kid. My last name is Naboshek (first name Matthew), and it’s a tough one to say correctly, so friends and teammates started calling me Nabo… and it stuck..
WHAT’S WITH THE NICKNAME “NABO” ?
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO BECOME A CREATIVE?
I’ll confirm w/ my Mom, but I’m pretty sure I was born this way. But I also had a TON of creative influences in my environment growing up. Most notably my parent’s love for a wide variety of art and design. I was also trained at Texas State University’s Communication Design program (BFA). Their focus was to educate students on the exponential value of having a concept at the core of every project.
CAN YOU NAME SOME ARTISTS THAT INFLUENCED YOU?
Some of my top favs would be:
> sculptors Henry Moore + Alexander Calder
> writer/illustrator Shell Silverstein
> illustrators Ralph Steadman + Aubrey Beardsley + Camille Rose Garcia
> Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser
ARE YOU A HOBBYIST?
ABSOLUTELY! I specialize in buying and selling early 1900s african american baseball photography. I have a collection of American folk art pottery Face Jugs. Love tinkering with wood & metal using any tool. Have always enjoyed doing landscape design for our home… moving medium to large-sized stones…by hand! I’ve spent thousands of hours at Antique Malls, Flea Markets, Auctions and Estate Sales. I have always enjoyed weekly cross-training or jogging (the “j” is silent). I’m a huge sucker for character study films…the drier the better. It’s a blessing and a curse…but I love deep-diving Pinterest for Egyptian & tribal artifacts, ancient metal, glass & wood-carved objects, and artists working in every medium you can think of.
IS THERE ANYTHING “WRONG” WITH YOU?
Clinically… YES. But I’m feeling much better now. Thanks for asking.
